What Renovations Add the Most Value Before Selling?

Not sure where to start before listing your home? I’m Jose Rafael — here’s what I recommend to help boost your property’s value.

When preparing to sell, smart updates can make a big difference. Here are the upgrades I’ve seen make the most impact in the Los Angeles market — without overspending.

Update the Bathrooms

You don’t need to rip everything out. Small updates go a long way:

  • Swap out old lighting or mirrors
  • Refinish the tub or replace the vanity
  • Add modern hardware

Buyers love clean, functional bathrooms that feel fresh.

Refresh the Kitchen

You don’t need a full renovation. Focus on:

  • Painting cabinets or replacing the handles
  • Updating appliances if they’re outdated
  • Adding a backsplash for style

Kitchens are a major selling point, even with simple changes.

Repaint with Neutral Colors

One of the easiest ways to freshen up your home:

  • Go with warm whites, greys, or soft beiges
  • Cover any scuff marks or bold color choices

Neutral colors help buyers picture themselves living there.

Boost Curb Appeal

First impressions matter:

  • Repaint or replace the front door
  • Tidy up landscaping
  • Add new house numbers or lighting

A clean exterior can draw buyers in before they even step inside.

Let the Light In

Lighting makes a home feel bigger and more inviting:

  • Swap old fixtures for LED or modern styles
  • Use mirrors to reflect natural light
  • Open blinds or use light curtains

Need help deciding what’s worth upgrading?

As your agent, I’ll walk through your home with you and point out what buyers are looking for — and what’s not worth the spend.

Let’s talk when you’re ready.
